The long-drawn-out Apple vs. Samsung patent lawsuit ended yesterday, with Apple emerging the victor in the final ruling. The jury ruled that Samsung had repeatedly infringed upon Apple's patents and also awarded Apple almost $1.5 billion as compensation.
Apple and Samsung are involved in legal lawsuits across nine different countries of the world. Though the U.S. trial was the most important one, the battle itself may be far from over.
Samsung has stated that it will place an appeal yet again, also pointing out certain inconsistencies in the ruling. Samsung has also said that this ruling would prove to be a loss for the consumer, who would ultimately suffer for lack of choice.
Incidentally, the Samsung devices that Apple is trying to put a stay on, are essentially ones that are no longer there in the market. However, experts believe that Apple may cause more damage in the future, by arguing that Samsung's latest devices also infringe on its patents.
In any case, the war rages on, with more upcoming trials in the near future. The two companies will have to be present again in court on September 20.
