Windows Phone 7 is a mobile OS developed by Microsoft. First revealed at the Mobile World Congress 2010, it was officially launched in September 2010. It is the next generation of the Windows Mobile OS and mainly targets the consumer market, rather than the enterprise market, like it predecessor did.

Windows Phone 7 comes with a brand new UI developed with the help of its design language, Metro. WP7, as it is also referred to, supports five languages – English, French, German, Spanish and Italian. Currently, this new platform supports apps in 17 countries of the world.

Windows Phone 7 uses multi-touch technology and the “hubbing” of online content by integrating with popular mobile social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter. This mobile OS uses Bing as its default search engine.

Though the user reaction to WP7 has been mostly positive, there are still certain areas that Microsoft needs to improve upon. The company has stated that it will release an update codenamed Mango in the Fall of 2011, which will tackle these shortcomings and provide the user a better experience on the whole.
